Frequently Asked Questions
Who Do You Work With?
I am experienced and comfortable working with adults, children and young people, both male and female.
What Can I Expect At The First Session?
If you decide to make a booking for a first exploratory session with me we will talk about your reasons for coming to counselling and what you would like to gain. You will have the opportunity to ask me any questions because it is important for you to get a genuine feel of the counselling process and how we might work together. We can discuss a convenient day and time to meet.
I am available weekdays from 8.30am to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. Please phone or email me to check my availability. You can leave a message which will be confidential and I will try to return your call before the end of the day.
Sessions for adults cost £45 for one hour and sessions for children and young people cost £35 for 45 minutes. I offer a 50% reduction for the first session.
How Long Does Counselling Take?
The process is different for everybody. You may find one or two sessions is enough, or we may decide to work for longer together and I always tailor the number of sessions to what is required and there is no time limit. I work on a short term basis usually between 6-24 sessions or on a more long term basis between 1-2 years. After our first session it will be clearer how long you might need. With young people the counselling is reviewed every six sessions to assess whether the level of need has changed.
Is It Confidential?
Counselling is always confidential and this is an important part of the contract between the client and the therapist. I will not break our confidentiality agreement except where you give consent for me to share information, or if I have a concern about your safety, or the safety of a third party. In this case I may be under a legal or moral duty to inform the authorities . If this should happen I would discuss this with you before I took any further action.
What Happens If I Cancel An Appointment?
Please can you give me 48 hours notice if you are unable to make an appointment. We can then re-schedule your session. I may need to make a small charge of £10 if less than 24 hours notice is given.
