Bereavement Counselling

Loss is at the heart of our lives and the way we react and respond to loss is very important. Grief is the feelings we have when somebody we love dies- it is a natural response. Losing a loved one can leave us feeling like our whole world has been shaken up because it can affect all areas of a person's life. You may feel isolated from other people as it can often seem as if others have moved on. Often it can be difficult to talk openly with family members and friends, because you do not want to burden them or you may be worried about their response. Having someone to talk to who is not involved in your daily life can be an enormous relief.

How can counselling help?

As a trained bereavement counsellor I will work my hardest to get the listening right acknowledging the uniqueness of each person's grief. I aim to offer a compassionate, warm and private space where you will be listened to without judgement. Bottled up feelings such as anger, stress, anxiety and guilt can become very intense and counselling can provide a space, time and place for you to safely let yourself experience the loss and really feel your feelings.

Counselling can help you to cope with physical reactions like sleeping problems, tiredness, lack of concentration, anxiety and panic attacks. You may need support in finding ways to adapt, allowing your life to carry on without forgetting your loved one. I will work alongside you as you tell your story and support you in finding different ways of working through your grief to help you re-adjust to your new life and sense of self.
